A mini quadrotor is being developed with its own camera by a new company called “Always Innovating”. They are calling it the MeCam. It is about the size of an average hand and will follow you around and take pictures.
The MeCam will fly around you 24/7 taking your pictures or making videos of you which will be streamed to a smart phone from which they will be uploaded to Facebook, Twitter, Youtube or any other social website of choosing. The drone will have 14 sensors which will enable its stable flight according to the company’s website. It is voice operated and does not require a remote for its operation. It will cost no more than 50USD.
The implications of this technology are already being prophesized by tech gurus. As the quadrotor robot will be programmed to follow you around, it may also be programmed to follow anyone of the owners choosing which is pretty troublesome as it may become a handy gadget for stalkers. Also it will also take pictures of people around us as well which would mean privacy invasion. With all the possible outcomes of this gadget, we will have to wait and see its success once it hits the market in 2014.
